How Germany’s Institutions Defy the ICJ and Their Own Courts
Prepared by Bystanders No More
International courts, including the International Court of Justice, have found that Israel’s conduct in the occupied Palestinian territory violates international law.
That conduct is not sustained by the Israeli government’s actions alone, and it is not stopped by other governments’ public statements of concern either. It depends on a network of Western states and the institutions inside them including arms manufacturers, banks, insurers, professional bodies, that most citizens have no direct vote over, but often have a direct relationship with, as a saver, a pension holder, an insurance customer, or a professional.
BNM is launching a series of reports that identify where that relationship runs in each country, and what a reader in that position can actually ask.
The first report in our series considers the framework in Germany.
